Postcards from the collection of William Wallace Ewing, Cooper Union graduate, Civil Engineer, U. S. Trade Commissioner, and our great grandfather. As we sorted through William's reports regarding the pineapple industry in the Hawaiian Islands and the Philippines and the steel industry primarily with the Mitsui Company in Japan, we discovered a collection of postcards he amassed on his railway journey across the United States and by ocean liner across the Pacific Ocean. One of the cards, as seen above, bears the autograph of Kenjiro Matsumoto who led a very successful business in Japan's mining industry. |

The postcards were collected for the most part between 1920 and 1925, on his last travels for government and business where he was responsible for modernizing manufacturing around the world and for expanding the United States steel industry. In a curious twist of fate, the Mitsui company, with whom William Wallace orchestrated commerce in 1925, is the same company one of his great grandsons represents today as an attorney. |
|
Postcards were purchased as he traveled across the United States and include Railroad Stations, scenes of the American West and cards from Mexico. From there he boarded ship for the Hawaiian Islands and the Philippines. During the early 1920s he also traveled to South America and obtained cards from Argentina and the Caribbean. |

There are 192 actual cards with 185 separate views. Two of these are small woodblock prints from Japan, c. 1925. There are more than 800 images, 73 cards on Volume 1 and 112 cards on Volume 2. All of the photographic cards were scanned and saved at 600ppi; the color printed cards were scanned at 300ppi or 600ppi. These are ultra high resolution photos that can be printed postcard size or enlarged for framing. They may also be used for scrap booking and as screensavers or wallpaper for your computer. Most have been saved in several different versions to accommodate variations between monitors and printers. Also available on DVD in one volume. |

Since we are photo restoration artists, each scan has been enhanced for color and brightness, and repaired where necessary. A scan of each original is included. Also included are scans of the backs of each postcard along with their descriptions and in some cases unique marks, to make them suitable for printing in their original glory. |
|
